V40 2000 Timing belt replace schedule

Post by DW »

I'm just wondering what would be an appropriate schedule for replacing the timing belt. I have a V40 year 2000 with a mileage of near 70K. The engine is B4204S2 DOHC. It is a gasoline engine without turbo. The owner's maunal says that the timing belt should be replaced by every 5 years or 100K miles, whichever comes first. My volvo is almost 6 years old with 70K miles. Someone in the forum said that T-belt should be replaced at 70 K miles, someone said that it should be at 80K miles, and another one said that it could be done at 105K miles. I wish to have your advices before going to a dealer.

Thank you very much in advance for your advices.

For proper functioning of the vehicle and its emission control systems, the timing belt and tensioner must be replaced every 105,000 miles (168,000 km).

I'm guessing that's for a US spec V40.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Thanks a lot, Mattew. I'm living in Paris and it's actually an european model. I think the US model came with turbo. The schedule specified in my owner's manual is the same as what you advised me to check. But many of the threads here told different schedules, which worries me. The reason that I'm hesistating to change the T-belt is that I'm staying here temporarily.
