On a S60 T5 what is the stock boost pressure?

Post by pauls60t5 »

Hi,

What are people getting with there S60 T5 for stock boost pressure? I'm getting 13-15psi running on 93 octane and a catback exhaust. I have a 2001 S60 T5 with a tiptronic trans.

thanks for the info,

That's strong unless it's an 05-06, those run a bit higher/
Stock is about 10-11 with spikes to 12-13 or so.
Maybe your gauge is a bit off.

This could be a puzzle unless its because I'm running 93 octane and at sealevel as my gauge is correct. I see on You Tube that someone took a recording that he was running at 11 psi but if you read down that page someone else has a 2001 S60 T5 and they are hitting the same boost as I'm. If you look at IPD website under there performance tune for a S60 they say that a stock pressure for a S60 T5 is 10psi but the year coverage is 2001-2007. The reason I started this topic is from the info on IPD website as I thought I might already have a tune in my car but now after some research I don't know. It would be interesting at what altitude and octane of gas IPD and the other cars in the You Tube video was running as its hard to believe that a low pressure turbo car is 8psi and a high pressure turbo car is 10 or 11 psi. You would think a high pressure turbo car would be much higher like what I'm hitting at 13 to 15psi with peak at 16psi. I know if I ask Volvo or other tuning companies what stock boost is on a S60 T5 they will not tell you a number but say it depends on the inputs to the ECU, which is true.

The base setting of wastegate influences the max boost as does the boost pressure sensor.
The spec for boost in the data book from Volvo lists normal as 82 Kpa(11.7 psi) and max as 93 kPa (13.3 psi).
Your car may have a low biased boost pressure sensor or may have a base wastegate setting that is on the high side.
The ECM on ME 7.0 engine management uses the boost pressure sensor for feedback but does have a little "wiggle" room in the program.
Those values are actually given as absolute pressures of 182 and 193 so higher altitude would read higher on your gauge if it is zeroed at an altitude having less than 100 kPa of atmospheric pressure
