Oil drip during idle....location by turbo

Oil drip during idle....location by turbo

I have this oil drip during idle around the turbo. I also notice some drips after I turn the car off, but then it stops. I'm a newbie to this car. Anyone have any input or experience with this?

That's just your intercooler hose - mine is dripping with oil too because it has bad seals.

Check to make sure your PCV system is clean and that the 2 hoses on the intake tube of the turbo are connected (see here) - they will cause lots of oil to be blown around if they aren't. Other than that, you may be in for a turbo rebuild.

since I have a fuel leak somewhere at the gas tank, I just dropped the car off at Autobahn Volvo Fort Worth... I asked the service advisor to check out the oil leak by the turbo. The car actually runs and sounds great. No smoke out the tail pipe. The turbo pulls strong and sounds as it should. Lets just see what they say.

You probably have a clogged PVC. The dealer should not have an issue finding the problem. I just hope it does not cost you an arm and a leg.

um... Autobahn service advisor called to update the findings... I'll have to call them back because I totally cannot remember details because I am stunned with HOW MUCH $$$ they wanted and my reaction to what they said. Something like upper and lower cam seals need replaced because oil was actually dripping down from them...then something about changing the timing belt...i really need to clarify this all.

To drop the fuel tank and pin point the leak and fix it( they are telling me that it's probably not the Safety Recall that is out because when they ran the VIN... no recalls were open on it, to replacing timing belt, to replacing upper and lower cam seals, to replacing the radiator grand total was= $3,497.22 (labor and part) at the Dealership. I'm sure this is a great deal... right? (sarcasm implied)

how much !!! you got to be kidding me. Thats crazy. If your handy with a wrench you can do these repairs yourself. We have a great repiar guide and you have plenty of help on here :).

yeah, Autobahn charges the MOST for labor in Fort Worth! They have to keep their Porsche, Jaguar, BMW, and Land Rover customers stocked up with latte's and perks. Has any in Fort Worth used Gorecki Saab/Volvo independent shop and/or The Volvo Clinic off Camp Bowie in Fort Worth?

The Gas tank I would like them to fix. Lord knows I'd mess that one up or mess myself up trying to fix it. The gas tank was full when I dropped it off.

These 3 problems are ALL messy jobs, (radiator, oil leak, and gas leak)..... So I've had some money saved up for the Radiator and Oil leak... until the other day I went to fill the car up since I've had it... and IT leaked. I told them to go ahead and fix all three, but don't get to ambitious with getting it done until payday. :-)

The car runs great and I'd like to keep it running that way. It just a BLAST to drive! Plust it's a "R" and I haven't seen one in town. EVER.

annnnnd I had a BAD experience with a 1991 Volvo 240 GL... I was a poorcollege student when I had it...just needed a car to go no more than 5 blocks from Apartment, to School to grocery store, bought it for $500 it had a oil leak and radiator leak... I nursed it for awhile... then I got ambitious... and tried to do some work/repair.... like replace the radiator... and an oil gasket... um... never drove on the interstate except the ONE fateful time... got 5 miles down the high way, and blew oil out almost every gasket... and was stranded.... with my dog in the car early Texas summer.

This repair on the 850 is the only and last major repair I will HAVE done on it. Everything else I can probably figure out. LOL!

Interesting, our dealer here sells the exact same brands, and charges out the @$$ for parts. I've never even seen what they'd want for service. Don't spend $3400 on a car that's probably not even worth that much for a few simple things, though.

The radiator is not too bad of a job; set aside a good afternoon and make sure you've got swivel joints on hand. And bribe a helper with beer/pizza - the thing is freaking heavy trying to hold it while screwing it back in place.

If your oil leak is just a rear cam seal or something, that's a super easy fix. If it's something else, it's likely going to be a royal pain in the rear. These cars will leak oil just about anywhere they possibly can.

Did they at least tell you if the PCV system was clogged? I think that is the likely suspect for oil out of that side of the turbocharger.
