There's a whole procedure here for it:

Yes, it is the same on yours as that one. Move that drain line for the A/C out of the way, and you will be able to wiggle it out. There are 4 screws, and then another in between the pipes that hold it in.

great. I saw the link and it looks like an easy enough job. i,m running up now to get the parts. I've got a separate issue on my wife's 99 V70 wagon, i'll post in other forum, but do you agree with fixing the abs module by re- soldering it to get rid of the warning lights that pop up?

That will usually get it done - the ABS modules on all of them fail at some point.

GOOD NEWS is that I was able to purchase the new heater core, $170.00 ugh, and get it installed. No more leaks. BAD NEWS, and please pass this around. I can be careless at times and not think through my steps. I was too eager to remove the heater core and I had been driving around for 45 mins prior to tearing down the heater core. I also forgot to open up the coolant cap to release the pressure. I got sprayed with hot coolant as I laid on the drivers side floor. Extremely painful but it could have been worse. This was my mistake but be sure to mention this error the next time some yahoo like myself decides to undergo a similar procedure that involves hot coolant. thanks for the great link though, it made it pretty easy despite my goof.

The link from jblackburn on the how to replace the heater core on an 850 does not work. Can you re-post that information for us?

Thanks,
New to this site. Owned the 1996 850 wagon for just over a year.

Question
What is the measurement on the hard lines that go into the heater core.
I want to remove ( eliminate) it and fabricate a U line so it stills circulate. I have no use for a heater whatsoever
Would do it in the engine compartment, if posible.
Guidance more than welcome
Thanks
