Hi,
I got a feeling my car suks the fuel... about 18-20 l/100km (11.7-13 mpg) in town and 12-14 l/100km out the town (19-17 mpg). I've red all posts conteing words fuel+consumption and fuel+economy. Found some ususal problems about this motor, but i'll be happy if you share with me how your B6294S engine mounted in S80 uses the fuel.

My car is pretty liberal on fuel consunption, however I`m getting about 17 MPG city and about 24-26 highway. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body and checking the fuel sender and filters?

Fuel sender and all filters (air and fuel) - done
Throtle - i'm planning to do that (i got rough idle), but probably next month - it's too cold outside now
Other thing i'm planning - the lambda sensors but I got a question about that: is there a way to check whether they are working correctly or not. I mean, yes, I could use a multimeter to see whether they work ot not, but this test is for completly blown sensor. I've red here that in aproximately 80k miles they become "lazy". That's my question - how could I be sure they are "lazy" or not?
I got the car since 20-25k km without service book, so I don''t know what is done with the car and what is pending to be done by me. I've done the standart things for a new onwner of a secound hand car - filters, oils, coolant, belts (both), some things on suspention, things like that.
Other fueal consumption results?

Keep in mind US MPG and Euro MPG are different so be sure you are talking the same units. FWIW I can get 26-27 US MPG on the freeway with the T6 and I get 21 with my everyday run to work (mixed city and freeway). I know you asked for non turbo, but if I can get this, then the 2.9 should be able to as well.

10x boosted5cyl for info.
I'm converting with this converter and it is US mpg converter for sure, but yes I give an eye where the poster is from to find out the right units
I need that info just to compare with mine. The T6 is the same engine with turbo, so you are right mine consumption would be in the worst case same as yours
10x again.
What about the lambda sensors check. Any idea how could i make a check or in what kind of shop that could be done for me?

There's 100cc in the difference to be pedantic, but yeah prettymuch the same design etc. Im not sure what specifically makes the difference in displacement.yuckuJackD wrote: The T6 is the same engine with turbo, so you are right mine consumption would be in the worst case same as yours![]()
Good question. From what I understand the only way to really know is to have an exhaust gas analysis done. In any case, the general coneseus seems to be that after 100K miles O2's are less than optimal. They may not throw a code or check engine light however. Pretty sure my V70 T5 needs an O2 for this reason. I can tell its running rich, but the ECU doesnt seem to "think" so. Vacuum issues and whatnot aside, the car has 204K miles on it so its a valid suspect.yuckuJackD wrote: What about the lambda sensors check. Whats this 10x about? :S
It depends on the the kind of conditions we are comparing though. If we are looking at just cruising along a freeway at say 60MPH speed, both our cars it will requre x amount of power which will need y amount of fuel, assuming we are burning correctly. The consumption should be very, very close. In the city and under accleration however its different of course.yuckuJackD wrote:I mean that no turbo=less air which needs less fuel.
Thats EXACTLTY what I was thinking too, that I could tell from looking at the voltages and stuff, but its seems the only way to really know for sure is gas analysis, which I guess makes sense. Or decide ***k it and replace them haha.yuckuJackD wrote:exhaust gas analysis how stupid I'm... sorry and 10xI was so busy thinking about electronic gadget for measuring the values ,speed for reaction and str, so I've missed the whole situation and stopped thinking globaly, which made me joke

Here is a video with info about the oxygen sensors for those of you who got same problems as mine - Oxygen sensor.
boosted5cyl 10x for helping me. Next mounth when the wether is better I'll do the throtle cleaning and check the oxygen sensors.
When i'm done I'll inform you what the real probem was and how I solved it/them. (sorry mrs. Kamenarova - my english teacher...

I have a 2001 S80 2.9 (non-turbo) with 166K miles. With my mixed around town and highway driving I get 22-24 mpg (average) and can get 28-29 mpg "highway". But "highway" is driving a steady 65 MPH with cruise control on flat ground with no stopping/starting, and really, how often can you drive like that? (except for the occasional long trip).
So the 22-24 average is pretty accurate for my normal everyday driving. And note that the "Average MPG" given by the car's computer is pretty accurate because I also calulate my MPG by hand and it is always within about 1 MPG of what the computer says. Sometimes the computer is a little higher or a little lower than my hand calculations, but overall it's very close!
