Cool, thanks for the follow-up Jessica, glad to hear you're rolling. There are some great Volvo-specific garages around too you might want to look into at some point. That used part is probably totally clean, so it shouldn't need any fussing for a while! PM me if there's anything you don't feel like starting a thread on, though this place is so thorough I bet you'll find most stuff easy in Search.

Hmmm Bill, I apparently my boyfriend sprayed it with electrical cleaner and let it try for a bit but no where near an hour. What kind fo problems would I have if it wasnt fully dry? Your comment about that scared me! =( Im taking out the IAC valve this weekend to clean it properly but should I not drive it until I do? I am having an odd time idling now but I also didnt clean the clips yet.

I wouldn't worry, that spray evaporates fast. Did it look clean inside? You'd see noticeable crust gunking things up if it were really dirty. His cleaning was likely fine. But of course, all comments by Bill overrule mine, he's the Volvo king.

Your Volvo 740 has two fuel pumps. One fuel pump is near the driver's seat. The second pump is inside the fuel tank. Are they both replaced now or not? If the tank fuel pump is broken and only the fuel pump near the driver's seat is operating it will be growling when you are starting the engine since it is not having enough fuel from the tank. Accordingly, the fuel pump of the tank should be checked.

ARGH!!!! My volvo is still randomly not starting! I replaced the IAC valve but the weird thing is, is sometimes when I STOP turning the key it will start. Other times it wont at all. I was told it could be the Mass Air Flow System (MAF) but wouldn't that have shown up on the diagnostic? Another thing is that I'm beginning to think that theres just a bad connection somewhere. I want to take apart the stearing column to see if anything is loose. How would I do that and what am I looking for? Also with having two fuel pumps, would it have trouble starting sometimes if only one was replaced? Anyways, with the stearing column I have noticed that when I put my keys into the ignition it seems very loose. I know the starter is fine because of the diagnostic.
HELP!!!!! This car has left me stranded, broke, and VERY frustrated.

I would NOW suspect the ignition switch itself, as it should NOT start when you stop turning the key. Something is worn out of alignment. It is on the steering column behind the key plate. Remove ground on battery, two screws on the cover, unplug, replace $70.00
