Water inside
Water inside
I have a 2004 XC70. Its raining today and I went out to the car and noticed a lot of water on the passenegr side floor mat (I was able to pick up the mat and pour the water off it). I couldn't find anything leaking, windows are up sun roof is closed, seems dry underneath dash. This is the first time this has happened. Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Was it water or coolant?
If water -pull the surround panels and check for disconnected or rupture drain hoses. While you are there have someone spray it with a hose by the front windshield and then the moon roof.
Sometimes the moonroof drain disconnects or gets clogged and blows off. Sometimes the moonroof seal or the front windshield seal fails.
You will need a friend and a hose while you are under the dash looking for the water.

Ah yes - college
If you do not have access to a friend or hose then take out the surrounds, get a flashlight, and go through a car wash. Pick a cheap one in case you have to do it twice. Be ready to dive under the dash to find it.

Before all of that you need to check the drain tubes for the moon roof, AC coil and any others that are down there. make sure to blow compressed air or stick a dull wire through to make sure they are not clogged or ripped.

Its definitely water not coolant. How do I get to the moon roof drain tubes? And by surround panels you mean the kick panels in the foot area of the passenger side?

I have had the same problem before i completely repaired my A/c system. Under right conditions Rain can go into your air intake and through the system, depending on if it came out of the air vent or not. If not it may be dripping through the system and down to the base of the tube, where is jimmy's it self out. I had the same problem getting into my car one day after moderate rain and heavy wind. Good Luck!
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

Before I go out and start this project, where are the moonroof drains supposed to drain too? Thanks for all of your tips!

OK, thanks. I took some pics after vacuuming up the water. The two floor board shots show what is there, there aren't any real kick panels down there. I believe the other to be the moon roof drain, I put some air down this hole and heard air coming out from what I believe was under the car. I saw no water entering the floor area when I did this. Also the air intake at the cowl is clear and the cowl drains at the corners of the cowl are clear as well.
