service light

Does anyone know how to reset that service light on 1998 s70 t5? I tried the remedy with a key positions ##1 & 2, while holding odometer button without success. Not big of a deal, just nice to see that these display lights are 100% in the dark.Thanks.

Or disable it permanently: remove the bulb from the dash. Takes 25 min or so and is a great improvement

You can purchase a Volvo Reset Tool for this model at www.partsgeeks.com (under tools) for about $120.00 I have one for my 98 S70 T5-M and it works. If you plan on keeping the car, then its a good investment.

You can reset the Service light with an inexpensive interface such as the one shown here:

If you have a laptop with a serial port or a USB to serial adapter, using this $12 adaptor, you can hookup the car to your laptop and using the Volvo FCR software, you can reset the service light.

I have used this combination since 2008, when I paid $35 for a similar adapter.

I have a disk and cable that came with my OBD-II code reader, I wonder if it will work.

Do you think that $12 eBay thing from China is safe to poke around in your car's ECU with?

Unless you want the service lite i would just remove bulb. It is not difficult to do and guaranteed never to come on again.

The $35 adapter I bought on ebay in 2008, chinese too, had the pins in the OBD connector, with sharp edges and almost no lead in. I had to pile them a lil bit , but the thing works; it does turn the light off and I still get to benefit from the service reminder light.

Just in case anyone wonders, I have no relation whatsoever to the ebay seller.

Look at the feedback the seller on ebay has. If they sold crap, their feedback would bottom.

My netbook does not have a serial port so this one with USB works just fine with Vol -FCR.
Make sure it has the FTDI chip in it, all the drivers can be downloaded from the FTDI website and set it to use com 1.
My car ('97 850)rarely throws codes so the only thing I've used it for is resetting the service light.
