Does my Volvo 850 have Motronic 4.4?
Am I throwing good money after bad
I have a 2001 V70 Base. It has 220K on it. It’s arguably the best car I’ve ever had and I really do “love my car”. I just replaced the brake booster, replaced the lower control arms recently and over the last few years have had to replace the a/c compressor, oxygen sensors and other miscellaneous parts. It needs struts, shocks, tires, inside review mirror and the transmission fluid replaced. The airbag module is defective and I would like to replace it but I can’t afford $800 right now. The car is in very good shape. I’ve never had any problems with the transmission, but I’ve heard they are problematic. I would like to keep the car for 3 more years. Will the car go 350K miles and what can I expect in the future? Am I throwing good money after bad? I appreciate everyones help and advice.
If you like the car, it is running fine and the transmission shifts OK, then I would keep it. Do a drain and refill on the tranny every 25K miles and you should be fine.
Fix the easy cheap stuff for now. Get a rear view mirror off eBay cheap and transplant the UEM from the old mirror to the replacement and you'll be good. Check Craigslist for decent used tires, if money is tight.
My vote: KEEP IT

I agree with jda2000 and it's been a good wagon for 220k. It seems like you have just done the normal replacement on parts that ware out do to milage and if your transmission is operating fine go with it. I have a 2001 V70 T5 I stay up on the maintenance my wagon has 109k and runs great. So I think jda2000 advice is solid and just keep an eye on the big things and enjoy your next three years...
I agree with both of you. jda thanks for the heads up on where to purchase a new booster. flylow, thanks for the trouble shooting tips as well. I am going to keep it. The next thing I am going to do is purchase a used rear view mirrow to repair my defective one (auto tinting issue). I found very detailed instructions on how to replace it. Also, going to do a ATF drain and refill. I will have to get new tires in the next few months so I will probably want to replace the front struts at the same time and the rear shocks soon after. While I have your attention, if you have any advice, tips, recommendations on where to get certain parts I would appreciate it. I'm unelmployed and have been for two years, so anything I can do to save money is of paticular interest to me.
Thanks again.
