02 s60 (non turbo) needs some mods...suggestions?

Post by Shark-baiter »

Got a 2002 volvo s60 (base 2.4L engine, non turbo) sitting in my garage begging to get some mods. Yeah its fun to drive but looking to squeeze a bit more out of it. Recently been thinking about an air intake (are CAI's the most effective?) possibly new spark plugs, maybe lowering the suspension to increase handling. This only a start and I'm open to all suggestions just please provided a brand and product name of whatever you suggest because I have been having a very difficult time finding and confirming effective parts that will fit under the hood or on my car. Thanks so much guys, I know I can depend on you guys to pointing me in the right direction.

Because there arn't any!
You can go faster around a corner with the proper suspension work, but NOTHING will really make it go any faster in a straight line.
You will waste your money adding a CAI or anything else for that matter.
Stage 0 is your best bet (do a search)

The most you can do with an NA Volvo is run a really good synthetic oil (you may get up to 5% out of the best oil) but that's about it. If you give the car a freer flowing intake the MAF will just tell the computer to ease off the fuel to compensate.
As JRL stated stage 0 meaning get the state of tune to where it was at factory by replacing plugs & gapping them correctly, new filters & clean injectors, perhaps O2 sensors if they have more than 130K miles.

Exhaust work may add a very small percentage but you'll get LOTS more noise.

There are some re-chipping options out there but beware they may affect driveability as there's not enough NA users looking for more power out there for the companies to justify the dyno time.

Because it doesn't so anything.
The most aggresive chip/flash will yield MAYBE 8 hp!
Do you want to spend $800 for 8 hp?
Hardly!

Thanks for the help guys, I'm thinking of just putting in a anti sway bar, some heavy duty rear end links, lowering springs.
Not sure on what kind of springs to get though. I've seen Eibach, H&R, B&G, and a pair sold by Elevate but not sure which would be best bang for buck.
