VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKES

Post by NEED 4 SPEED »

I HAVE A 93 850 GLT AND WHENEVER I APPLY THE BRAKES, VIBRATION OCCURS. ALSO THE ABS LIGHT STAYS ON. HOW DOES ONE KNOW WHEN THE CAR IS IN ABS MODE? IS THE CAR ALWAYS IN ABS MODE? I HAVE CHANGED THE FRONT ROTORS, THE PADS ARE GOOD WITH LOTS OF MEAT LEFT SO I LEFT THEM ALONE. HAVE NOT CHECKED THE REARS YET. ALSO MY BACKUP LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. THE FUSE IS GOOD AND THE BULBS ARE GOOD. HELP!!!!

Vibration coming from the front? What type of rotors did you use? It sounds to me like warped rotors. As for the reverse light thing, it sounds like a faulty PNP switch if the car is an automatic or a faulty reverse light switch if the car is a 5-spd.

Vibration while applying brakes...

Possible warped rotors.
Possible front/back brake fluid regulator.
Possible bad inner tie rod ends.
Possible bad outter tie rod ends.
Possible bad steering idler arm.
Possible bad ball-joints.

WOULDN'T THESE SYMTOMS BE FELT DURING DRIVING WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING APPLIED?

I'd change the rear rotors, sounds like it's them.

As for ABS, that module cracks and fails, causing the always-on ABS light. This thread has more about it, and where to send it to get it fixed:

On these two items, statistically speaking, my suggestions are probably the cure. But -- you never know for sure in real life, let alone over the Internet.

Inner tie rod ends? How many tie rod ends does a rack and pinion system have? Idler arm? Perhaps the 'guest' poster above was being general.

I have still got a small vibration with the brakes - I've replaced tires, all 4 rotors/pads, tie rod ends and lower ball joints. I'm about to give up - it was horrible before, now just slightly annoying, only felt stopping at say 70-80 MPH.

Any more ideas I'm all ears!
