2002 S 80 CV shaft.

I want to replace the right cv shaft on my 2002 S 80 T6. It seems there are two types. One with a voscous coupling, one without.
Is there any way of telling if I have a viscous clutch in my car?

There is no viscous coupling in any of the CV shafts. They want to know if your car has All Wheel Drive.

To clarify for others, some FWD S80s do indeed have a visco clutch. My 99 T6 has one for instance.

How can you tell if your car has a viscous clutch? I am trying to replace my shaft on the passenger side and I'm not sure what to look for.

There is a big, heavy looking thing between the transmission and the bearing mount that bolt to engine. Is that the visco clutch?

The VC will be a 4 inch by 3 inch (approximate size) housing on the axle shaft between the trans and the support bearing.
If your axle is roughly 1 inch diameter from trans to where that support bearing fits then you do not have the VC type shaft. I think the VC type were only 99 and part of 2000.
I had a 99 T6 with one.

Ok, there is a unit in that space but I'm not sure if it fits those dimensions. I will snap a pic tomorrow and post it here.

W/O the visco-cluth does the axle go straight from the bearing housing the the tranny or is there a round piece there either way? It looks like a thick saucer.

I do not have one to look at but the shaft is straight from trans to bearing w/o VC and the VC is in that space ones so equipped.

You can't miss the thing if you have it, its huge. It looks like a big lump of round metal on the driveshaft.

This is what it looks like...Big a$$ cylindrical drum, much bigger than the driveshaft...
