Mounting hardware for front struts and rear shocks

Post by wdhouser »

I am getting ready to replace the front struts and rear shocks on my 2001 V70. I purchased a kit from FCPgroton for both. The only parts it did not inlude are the nuts and bolts for the strut to hub assembly and the bolt and nut for the rear assembly. I have the Volvo part numbers, but Autozone, Napa and others can't cross reference (at least on their web sites). It would be easier if I had the acutal sizes and dimensions, then I don't need the part numbers. I live alone and once I start the work it would be a problem if I had to go to the store and get something to complete the job (my car is on jacks). I have all the tools, I have been spraying WD on the nuts and bolts for a couple of days and I'm ready, but I want to have all new hardware as well.
Anybody have the info I'm looking for or some advice on where to get the hardware (maybe it would be easy just to go to the Volvo dealership).

Thanks,

Bill

I think you'll only be shelling out ~$10 by getting the hardware through a Volvo dealer.

The fastners from Napa would suffice just fine. Nuts are the same. I wouldn't waste the time or spend more than Napa would charge.

Today I did one more round of PB Blaster and made sure that I had all the tools and I could losen every nut and bolt. It does not look like I will need the nuts and bolts in question, but they were not cheap at the Volvo dealer. $50 for 6 bolts and 4 nuts! That's nuts! I bought them anyway just in case I need them. If I don't they will let me return them.

Should I use locktight on any of them or am I supposed to use a torque wrench? If so, then do any of you know the the values I need to torque them to?

I'm going to replace them tomorrow. I'm pretty pumped about doing this. It's saving me a butt-load.

Thanks for all your help!

BIll
