pulls to right

Post by AlanS »

Car was aligned, wheels balanced... on the highway, when you accelerate, there is a noticeable pulling to the right...The alignment guy says that his work is O.K...what else can it be? '95-850 wagon N.A.

It may be also bad control arm bushings.

Might also be you've got two different brands of control arm in it, with different hardness in the bushings...

In another forum someone was having a similar problem. Othen then what I read in that the only other idea I can come up with is if the trans has some ability to provide more power to one wheel then the other when strongly accelerating or some component designed to keep wheel in place allows some slight movement when stressed(struts, ball joint, control arm. etc). Sorry for not having a cure.

That would be a pretty bad case of torque steer, but it is possible, especially if the tires don't match.

Thought torque steer was when a large in line engine (not transverse mounted like volvo) was quickly gased so that the spining crank would cause torque and the engine would lean or rock in the direction of the spin causing the front end to do the same and the alignment would briefly cause the car to pull. Maybe.. Not knowing the design of the volvo trans and how it accounts for slip to account for varying wheel speed in turns, I thought that there might be a possibility of it varying power to each wheel if not operating correctly.

How are the front brakes? I just did brakes on a relative's car and the first pad to really bottom out in terms of wear was causing consistent and noticeable pulling on braking. Probably not your issue, but it happens.
