Volvo S40 hood catch repair
So.. I just had the hood - catch replaced on my daughter's 2001 S40. The dealer said it took several hours and so I have a big bill. I think they replaced both cable and catch. It seems to me like that should be about 30 mins work but perhaps I'm wrong. Anyone know better? Thanks....

I just had the latch replaced in my 2002 S-40. It cost me $145 at the dealer's, and I expressed my extreme displeasure that it broke in the first place.
I have driven Volvo's since 1970 and have never run into this problem - which I'm convinced is due to a defective part. I argued 'til I was blue in the face, but to no avail, and I'm paying for "bumper to bumper" extended warranty - which I found out is a crock of dung!
Save for perhaps a dozen fluid level checks by me, the only people who have been under my S-40's hood have been that same dealer's mechanics. I figured that the hood latch has been opened perhaps 30 times, which doesn't speak well for Volvo quality control. The only other person I know with an S-40 has also had the same problem...
