The turn signals on my '98 S90 just come on steady when activated. I got a new flasher relay from the auto parts place but can't find the location for it in the car. Can anybody point me in the right direction/location?
thanks.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Another hard one from a new starter. I could not find the location in any of my books but have come up with this:
http://www.volvo-forums.com/index.php?s ... ator+relay
If it is not right let us know.
Bill.

Ok,
My turn Signal went out as has been described several times in this Forum (98 S90). Went to PArts bin and ordered what was approved as the correct relay for the car. IT appears on the left of the picture. Well, I went to find the relay location, and sure enough, no joy. Both behind the dash in the fuse panel, the only relays in there were power supplies and fuel pump relay. Checked under the hood, and there are about 7 relays... but no turn signal relay. I might also add that these relays have a big "J" on them, and they have five prongs. The part I got from PArts Bin has only 3.... I followed the link posted above, and pulled the hazard switch from the dash. No problems there... Very Easy! My guess is that this switch contains all the relays for the turn signals and the hazards built into it. Tried the turn signals after I unplugged the switch from the dash, and there is no change in the frozen right turn signal. I guess a visit to Volvo is in my future. I'll let you know what happens!

Yes, the hazard switch is the flasher unit also. A popular way to do it on 80's to 90's European makes, that is, until they figured out a more complicated way to do it with computers.

Bad news...
The new hazard relay switch came into Volvo San Diego. I plugged it in, and no luck. I am still having the turn signal failure. I have a right turn signal that stays on all the time. Hazards do not work while running, but do function when the key is off. could the switch on the steering column be bad?

Allright!
I have replaced the old hazard switch, and I pulled the turn signal switch. This was not too hard. four screws holding the trim around the steering column. Then two star screws holding the turn signal switch on the left. two plugs one for the turn signal and one for the cruise control.
I turned on the car, with the switch out, I am still showing right turn signal stuck in the solid. (first sign that the problem is not the switch). When switched off, I could get the hazards to work properly.
I decided to give the switch a little test before I went and purchased a new one. There are 8 pins on the switch. two are not in use, and tied to the neigboring pin (4 tied to 2, 6 tied to
.
Wiring is as follows:
pin 1 -Green/pink
Pin 2 - Green/Black
pin 3 - Green
pin 4 - None
pin 5 - Blue/Orange
pin 6 - None
pin 7 - Blue/Green
pin 8 - Blue/White
The diagram below shows:
Blue/Orange as the output of the relay (pin5) and as input to the switch.
Green as output from the switch to left signal (pin3)
Blue/Green as output from the switch to the right signal (pin7)
Switch test:
at null position 1 ohm between each pin
at right turn position 0 ohms between 5&7, 1 ohm between all the others
at left turn position 0 ohms between 3&5, 1 ohm between all the others
Long story long...
I think my switch is ok. Any other ideas?

Skimming the other topics for ideas, and found a good idea from pondman in 2009.
I pulled all the fuses and each is ok.
I held the following fuses for 60 seconds:
3 - Brake Light, Light switch
15 - Power antenna, Headlight flasher, trailer
17 - Hazard warning flasher, direction indicator
19 - Backup lights, Turn indicators, Cruise
No Change.
I turned the key to position II Still right turn signal solid. I then pulled 17 and 19 both. I expected that this should kill the whole circuit but it did not. the right turn signal remained solid.
While poking around, I noticed that when the key is off, and the headlight switch is put into the driving light/parking light position, the right turn signal is solid. When the light switch is turned to off, the right turn signal turns off. Could my headlight switch be making all this trouble?

Mystery Solved!
I found a suggestion on BrickBoard. Replace all the bulbs thye say... Sounds simple right??? Well The Right Turn Signal has two electrodes on the bottom that have solder contacts. The solder melted together, and all those 12 volts go in the direction of least resistance...
I have replaced all the bulbs. Thanks for all the help!
