Computer Reset and Emissions Test

Post by Alex »

I recently purcahsed '98 V70 GLT. The dealer had some work done before I picked it up, including a full tune up. When I picked the car up I was told to drive it for approx. 100 miles and then come back for the state emissions check, because they had reset the computer and it would need time to fully come on line. This sounds odd. The car is driving well w/no issues. Any ideas?

Computer needs to go thru a couple of drive cycles for it be in the "ready" mode for emmision testing.
Battery probably was disconnected

Thanks for the info. So if I've put about 75 miles on it, various driving scenarios, over a few days it should be fine?

Should be. If you want to know for sure, go to Auto Zone or if you know someone with an OBD II reader, plug it in and check it. All the emission monitors have to have competed their run.

Remember, that you have to go through at least 2 driving cycles of the diagram. It's a pain, but worth it to pass the emmissions test.
