I'm hoping someone here can help me with this.
I have a 2001 V70 2.4T with around 185k miles, and I recently (grudgingly) took it in to the dealer to get the throttle cleaned and the AC issues diagnosed. $660 later, the throttle was cleaned and the AC was diagnosed with a bad temperature sensor ($310, assuming the compressor's still good). And, as an added bonus, I found out that my front control arm bushings are shot ($640 + $59 alignment) and I should probably get my rear sway bars replaced ($210).
So, assuming the dealer's right about this, which of these issues are better left to the dealer and which are better left to an independent shop? I've got a mechanic who's great about oil changes, fluid checks, minor part replacements, etc., but tends to trivialize things he doesn't feel comfortable fixing (case in point: he said the sticking throttle was due to the age of the car, and rather than fix the AC I should just get used to the heat).

There are a few indies in the Philly area that someone should be able to point you to, someone will chime in. You can check the VCNA site and email one of the locals to. The parts that will fix your problems should not be more than 300-400, 59 is a good price for a dealer alignment and it was probably best to let them clean the throttle body.

If you're in ther Philly area I/we can take care of most of your issues or at least diagnose them properly.
My labor charge is less than 1/2 of what most dealers charge (and I do not go by flat rate, just how long it actually takes to do the job properly) and maybe 40% less than any indy mechanic.
PM me
