Shop around with all of the vendors to get the best deal - they all seem to be in the $125.00 range.

The real guts of the power stage is a MOSFET transistor but sadly that MOSFET was made of a rare product called Unobtanium. The part has been discontinued. There was a thread on one of the boards, Brickboard I think, that had a suggested alternative part but it took some modifications to get it to work.

If you are handy with a soldering iron you might be able to repair it for just a few dollars.

Thanks again Lee.Spent today trying to find a vendor who might have the correct transistor for the repair of the power stage. Did find information at Brickboard. the transistor used was STP140NF55 N-CHANNEL, ORIGINAL PART WAS 2SK1423. SO FAR HAVE BEEN TO MANY SITES with no luck. My original transistor has K 1259 on it,
Hows anyone out there on Matthews done this repair recently and ordered the transistor.
Any information would be welcomed.
thanks, cheers

UPDATE. Found a place that has the correct transistor for repair.
Site is www. digikey.com $ 3.05 each
Trying to find transistor on the site is difficult, so I just called them and they found the transister by part number.
I am waiting for transistors to arrive so I will wait to post results.
For more information go to Brickboard, look for or type in for search How to remanufacture your blower powerstage yourself.
later

If you can snap some pictures of your procedure and do a writeup it would be a guaranteed repair database item and help many people down the road.

I am back.
Volvo ECC is now operational.
I did order transistor from Digi-Key. Nice folks but it is very hard to get the correct transistor if you (me ) do not have the knowledge about them.
I used transistor part number from post on BrickBoard titled ( How to repair power stage yourself) Posted by Jean-philippe gauthier on july 23 2007. It has nice pictures .
number STP140NF55 , his original number on power stage transistor was 2SK1423, mine was K1259 and not one at sites could find any part number for transistor of mine.
Bottom line I ordered 2 from Digi-Key.If you order transistors from anywhere make sure you tell them you need a form factor of TO-3p, that spicifies transistor with hole to attach to heat dissipator.
transistor was a bit smaller than original but fit in space and had screw hole to attach. I removed old transistor and installed new one. You have to form transistor pins to fit to board.
Installed in car and tried. No luck.
My board in power stage had some corrustion and could be bad.
I ended up going to Volvo wrecker and buying a used one for $ 55.00
Installed and worked fine. Thanks Lee for all your help. Did take pictures but can't figure out how to apply in post. Dahubb
