I had tagged on an older thread and am starting a new one per the suggestion of another member.
I replaced the starter motor on my 98 S70 and it continues to spin after the car is started. Every thing else seems to function just fine.
Some history.
I bought the car about a year and a half ago and it had/has an ignition key that sometimes spins 180 degrees but engages after one-half rotation and continues to work. The other day the car would not start and I thought it was finally the ignition key. I manually moved the car and after this it started, since I moved it I thought it may have been the motor so I replaced it. After replacement it starts fine except the starter motor continues to spin after starting. I have checked all of the connections and they are good. I purchased a rebuilt starter from Pep Boys and took the original one back and got another one and it does the same thing.
Working up stream I switched the starter relay with the engine relay (they are the same) and the symptoms are the same. I noticed after I started the car that after a few seconds the starter motor starts to spin up faster as you can hear its revs increase. (engine motor is idling) I put a voltage meter on one of the motor poles and the voltage increases from around 8V up to 12V as the motor starts to spin faster.
I am thinking that it may be the switch assembly, but one member suggested that I get an OEM starter first.
Any other ideas are appreciated. Eventually I will probably have to replace the ignition key so I am thinking about doing this next.
Thanks!

You have a bad ignition switch.
Replace it.
And if you still have the original starter,
I'd consider putting it back in. It's probably
much better quality than the rebuild.

This took awhile but after replacing the ignition switch the starter motor still spins after the car is started. It is has a strange sound in that it appears to spin up faster after the SRS and other lights go off right after starting the car.
As near as I can tell it must be: 1) Pep boys rebuilt starters don't work. (2 do the same thing) 2) Something else electrical
Any ideas as this is a strange one...

I replaced both the switch and the mechanical portion and both are functioning perfectly. I can't think of what would be causing the the system put current to the starter motor after starting but this appears what is going one. I took the relay out after starting the car and this had no effect.
I am also trying to think of what would be the difference between a Pep boys rebuilt and an OEM version. Impeddence? Would this cause it to spin?
