my best tank was 1190 KM = 739.4 milesIVIUSTANG wrote:The trip is done without a hitch; it was awesome. Here's the good news, my best tank was 1190 KM and my second best was 1130, my average tank lasted about 900 KM. I averaged a speed of about 116 KPH.
my second best tank was 1190 KM = 702.1 miles
I averaged a speed of about 116 KPH = 72.0 mph
739 miles divided by 18 gallons is 41 mpg. That would set the MVS record, by a wide margin. Are you sure?

I can believe it. Under the right conditions these engines are incredibly fuel efficient.

Yeah I'm sure, maybe my combination of MOS2 and Amsoil synthetic with my K&N air filter are paying off? I got my best tanks cruising at 60 MPH in the mountains with my A/C off, coasted down hills and gently accelerated up them, it was rolling. I got both of my best tanks on the same road going opposite directions; they were anomalies but still repeatable. It was 37C or 98.6F at the time of the best tank.matthew1 wrote:my best tank was 1190 KM = 739.4 milesIVIUSTANG wrote:The trip is done without a hitch; it was awesome. It's my job to challenge claims here
. At 60mph I'd say you're operating at just about the most efficient speed in these cars, the very top of the speed vs. mpg chart, according to my seat of the pants analysis over the years. And your car is in top tune judging by your posts here. I've gotten 38.8 mpg over 10 miles.
You've always been a levelheaded, intelligent user here so I have no reason to disbelieve your numbers. If this was your first post I'd be very skeptical.
Here's the MOS2 topic for others to get background on this additive.

1190Km per tank is very good in a turbo 5 cyl volvo. My 93 5 speed regularly gets over 550 miles to a tank city highway. my best yet is 608 on a tank. My 94 turbo gets 360 to 415 miles on a tank depending.

Not saying anything about what you believe, but >50 mpg at 82 average mph for a full tank is outside the envelope of believability for me, tailwind or no. Even if the gallons were imperial.

Unless the tailwind also included going DOWNHILL I also will challenge that
