CHECK ENGINE LIGHT '98 S70 help please

Post by imajicas24 »

 we just bought a 98 s70 4-door with 90,000 miles on Monday. Finally we were able to pick it up tonight. Four hours later the check Engine light came on. Yes the gas tank cover was tight. Is this a problem that we will have. Was it even worth buying this car???????? IM STRESSED. This is our first Volvo. We have always had Honda. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!

Relax. Things probably are ok. I just bought the same car this year. My first. However, I work at a Volvo Dealership. The techs help me a little and while on a number of these posting tle of people checking if their gas cap is on well, they don't consider that he cap may be bad. Mine was and for about $20 I got a new cap and the trouble was gone. you may need to have the light turned off by a tech but it may go off itself after it ceases to detect the vacume leak. While these seem to be very technical and picky cars- I think this is the best car I've ever owned. Also, if your car has not been to an actual dealer in a while, there may be software upgrades that are available that can help. Yes, the cost per hour is steep but a real check up once in a while is good and it can give you a heads up of what to expect. There is a need to do maintenance. Jeff.
