S70 Replacing rear door speakers

Post by HazMatt »

Hi -

I want to upgrade the speakers on my 1998 S70 GLT. I am looking at Polk Audio DB650s for the rear door. These are supposed to be very nice. I read in another post in this forum that the rear door and rear deck speakers are wired in parellel and are both 8ohm. The DB650s are 4ohm - will this be a problem? If not, will they be difficult to install?

I'd also be interested in other recommendations for stereo upgrades for this car.

thanks,
-HazMatt

The Volvo system is a balanced system. If you are going to change the speakeres you need to put the same ohm speekers in or you will affect the imedance. You may not notice the differance but either the speakers or radio will eventually burn out or start sounding bad.

Stolen from a Physics website:
Ohm's Law deals with the relationship between voltage and current in a conductor or the resistance of that conductor. This relationship states that:

The voltage across a conductor is proportional to the current through it (resistance = R).

Ohm's Law is given by:

V = I R

where V is the potential difference between two points which include a resistance R. I is the current flowing through the resistance.

Ok, all the speakers I'm finding for this car are 4ohm. Can I replace the front door speakers with a 4 ohm set safely since it's not running parellel with another set? If not, where can I find 8ohm speakers?

thanks,

Try Crutchfield. They have a great selection of speakers that should fit your car: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YUeKYTXF0o ... ?g=400&l=D
