Loud Air Pump

My air pump is really loud. I am new to volvo but I don't think that this noise level is original design. It of course starts with initial startup but when I stop at a light or pull into a parking lot it is embarrassing. I can hear it over the radio and have to raise my voice to have a conversation. Is this normal or is there an adjustment to be made? Thanks

you need to replace your air pump w/a new one...same thing happened to my 75 240DL...good luck
