Drivers side seat belt and SRS Light...

Post by jbo6924 »

The SRS light has come on in my 1998 v70 t5, took it to the dealer and was told there was a problem with my drivers side seatbelt and that it should be replaced. Anyone ever heard of this? Is this something I can do myself? Hope so, cause any time the dealer gets hold of your car your in for a "G," at least!

The seat belts have explosive charges that are triggered by an accident that is sufficient to trigger the airbags. What the charges do is instantly tighten the seat belts upon impact.

If you have not had an accident I am questioning the diagnosis as a faulty seat belt but it can happen. More common problems are at the electrical connector or the wiring.

Do not use an ohmmeter to test the trigger circuit as it can actually trigger the belt.

If the seat belt got unplugged at some time recently without the battery disconnected that would account for your code but it is easily reset by the dealer.

Can the connectors be repaired or replaced "under the shade tree," or does it have to go To the dealer? Any how to's will be welcome. Once repaired I will take to the indy for srs light reset. Thanks.
