"What's a Volvo without headlight wipers?"
Just bought a 98 S70 turbo today. Checked everything out and it is in tip top condition. Unfortunately, the 1 thing that doesn't work(and I didn't check) was the passenger headlamp wiper. When we ran the squirts it went up once, then didn't come back down. I thought I'd have my fiance run the squirts while I tried to help it down...Well now the arm is completely off the motor shaft. The hooks that are under the housing just kinda crumbled. So I looked into ebay and other parts sites looking for 1: The Motor, and 2: a new arm with assembly. The selection was really limited, so my question is as follows:
Are parts interchangeable between different models of Volvo? For example: If I wanted a 1998 Passenger headlight wiper motor for an s70, could I find the same part in a similar year 850, v70, or c70?
Thanks so much for the help, and so far(even with my wiper mishap) I'm lovin' Volvo

Welcome to the forum!
Congrats on the purchase. You've come to the right place.
The '98 is very similar to the '94 to '97 850's as far as parts under the hood, suspension, etc. The interior is wildly different. Starting with 1998, the S = sedan, C = convertable and the V = wagon (oh, of course; V for wagon - huh?!) so you could look at those as well.
I'm not sure about the wiper motor, and both FCP and Rock Auto don't list the part - not that I could see, at least. For the 850's - and I assume for your car - most people let them wither and die due to the high cost of parts and the pain in the arse to replace the parts.

Just wanted to add a quick update. This morning I got under the hood and after a more thorough inspection, I noticed that one of the engine grounds was oxidized straight through. Went to autozone got 2, changed them out, and $12 later both wipers are working fine. Now I just need to figure out where to get that left arm assembly...

An arm?
How about your local Volvo dealer?
(That's the only place you will find one, or a wrecking yeard like erie)

Sorry just had to!! They make Medicine for the squirts!!! LOL!!! Ha-Ha!!!98volvoT5S70 wrote: When we ran the squirts it went up once, then didn't come back down. I thought I'd have my fiance run the squirts while I tried to help it down..
So speaking of these massively annoying little parts, the passenger side wiper motor will not turn off on my car! The wiper arm does not move unless you tap it, at which point it stays in the upright position and will not come back down until it randomly decides to do so. The washer fluid does not come out of the washer anymore either. I also just had the wiper stolen off the arm at school (don't ask me why) and I am at the point where I just want to disconnect the motor from its power source. Simple task I thought, but when I looked the procedure up in the repair manual it basically said nothing about how to do so. Can anyone help with this or explain what is going on. Its drained my battery a few times too, and that motor running gets really old after a while.

I hate repeating myself
PULL THE WIRE and forget about it
Not worth trying to replace it

I haven't had to disconnect my wires (yet) so I don't know where they are. But if you've located the motors you can either unplug from there or just clip them (tape off the bare ends). Mine are much more trouble tan they are worth. I've removed the wipers and arms. Now I want to remove the shafts and fill in the holes or get the plastic covers from a junk yard for a car not equipped with the wipers.
If anyone knows how to remove the shafts without pulling the motors I'd appreciate the info.
BTW: The Letter symbols for the later models (S, C, V) are correct except for the V. It doesn't mean "Wagon" (although the practical understanding is just that) but it means, in Sweden at Volvo anyway, it designates "Versatile".
