1997 960 crankshaft timing mark - where is it?
I am in need of help locating the timing mark for the crankshaft of a 97 960 engine, I have accidently moved the crank after the belt was removed. I cannot find any lines or marks on the pulley. Can anyone help?

The cam belt rides on the toothed pulley that has one or two small cut notches in the teeth placed closest to the engine. The easiest way to find them is to look on the piece of metal directly attached to the toothed pulley on the crank pulley side ( away from engine). Their is a small bump on that area as well.
Search for timing marks on Whiteblock and you will see some photos of the marks.

Here is a picture of mine, when it was off the car and shot from the backside.
When the crank is on it's mark, then you will be able to rotate both cams freely without interference. Many people mistake that on the mark means TDC for the number one cylinder, but it does not, it means that all pistons will be at various levels below the deck to allow for cam rotations.
