Intermitant starting problem

Post by baffled »

I have a 1994 - 850 that after it has been run for a while and shut off, sometimes it won't start back up unless it sits for a while. I have changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, and recently changed the cam position sensor. It still does it even with the colder weather upon us. When the car does try to start, the motor acts like it is running on one cylinder and as soon as you touch the gas it will stall. After the car sits for about fifteen minutes or so, it will start up like nothing was wrong. I could use some help figuring this one out as the parts being put on with no reward are killing me. Thanks

ECT sensor or try jumpering fuel pump relay?

Does your temp gauge act normally - climb to halfway within a few minutes, then stay there as you're driving around at higher speeds?

Thanks for the suggestion but I failed to mention that these have been also looked at. It act more like a fuel problem to me.

The temp gauge is reading normal at all times.

I can't see that one. When my regulator died my car barely ran. And then ran like crap at ALL times; not just when hot.

I would try jumpering the fuel pump relay as a start. Relay 103 in the upper fuse panel by the windshield (the top cover removes with a few torx screws). Jumper pins 15 and 87 with a wire or paper clip.

The fuel injector relay is another possibility. It's on the radiator shroud.

Other than that, I would think its got to be some kind of sensor issue.
