1994 1995 PVC parts, mid year break, Hose connections
I'm finally doing my pcv system on a 94 850 turbo, It was burning oil after cold starts, but otherwise car ran great, but the smoke was really getting bad, and thought this would be first step. After taking things apart I found a good bit of oil in intercooler hoses, I'm hoping it might be from clogged pcv, and not turbo seals, My real question is about the smaller hose running off ptc nipple, the one across from electrical connection. On mine the hose ran about 10 inches to about under distributor and was just broken off and not connected to anything, I cant find where it would connect to anything
My new hoses have this hose inside a foam sleeve that runs over to pcv cannister, but I dont see anywhere to connect it to. Could this disconnected hose be something to do with oil in my intercooler and what does it do? I have looked over the pcv tutorial several times and there are a few things that are different from a 98 and a 94. Any help or suggestions would be great Thanks

The vacuum hose should just tie into the vacuum tree by the throttle body.

Maybe I'm just confused by this or have the wrong new parts. I wish I knew how to post pictures here. I see the vacum hose that is attached to the intake pipe just before the ptc nipple. The one that is confusing me is the second smaller hose that connects in the side of the ptc nipple. You posted a picture not long ago and labeled it as #3 in your picture. The old hose could about reach the vacum tree, but my new hoses have this one connected in the foam sleeve running all the way back to the pcv can. My 94 also does not have the vacum elbow on the intake on the left side. What does that smaller hose on the ptc nipple do? the one across from the electrical connector. If it is just vacum, I guess it really would not matter where it is hooked in.

I think I figured it out. The hose was broken off just under upper motor mount. It connects to a steel tube that loops around spark plug wires and then goes out and back into vacum tree. I have no idea what the point is in running it under spark plug cover. Hose I got from volvo maybe is for newer year. I think that on newer models vacum connects to elbow on left side of manifold, which my 94 does not have

That steel tube serves to warm up the PCV gases to keep them from freezing (or clog). Most of the time it clogs up and people just remove it, and Volvo did the same in later years because it was unneeded.
A lot of 94s came with a reverse intercooler pipe setup that gave more power but could indeed in extreme conditions freeze up the throttle plate. A recall was done early on for that.

This went (on my 96) to a nipple on the intake on the right-side of the engine.keepersboy wrote:My new hoses have this hose inside a foam sleeve that runs over to pcv cannister, but I dont see anywhere to connect it to.

On my car which is a '95, that hose goes to the end of the manifold just behing the thermostat (near the back side of the t-belt cover).

If you do not have the nipple on the end of your manifold, you likely have the WRONG PCV kit. There are a few changes to the breather system in these cars and the breather box is even different in the '95 T-5R cars that were built pre and post June '95. So please make sure you have the proper kit so you don't create problems in your system.

Rspi nailed the problem on the head. The breather box i have is about an inch shorter than the on I got . I called the dealer I got the parts from, and they took my vin number and said I had the early version, so I had some of the wrong parts sent to me. My version also does not have the vacum lin on the end of the manifold, but the one that goes under the spark plug cover. The other hoses I was able to cut down to fit. Thanks for all the help
