- Pry bars. This was actually the easiest of everything I did. The inner axle just popped out.

THIS Picture happens to show cracked rubber brake line, and that is where I was told they break and leakwheelsup wrote:Is this what you were having difficulty with?
You really need to get air. An air hammer with a pointy attachment would've made short work of that. Just rubbing it in.

So this project was to change out the hub bearing???
Is this a maintenance thing or was something wrong?
I know I ask a lot of question, but I have an axle swap coming up and want to know if I need to plan on doing the hub at the same time..
Thanks for any input.
Shane

Obayha, the hub was going bad. Whump whump whump as I turned right, meaning my left hub, or one of them, was going. At 250k+ miles you might want to do preventative hub replacement, but they're not in the preventative maintenance price league at $100-ish times four.
My mistake was to ruin the axle by hammering it too hard with too hard a sledge. Perhaps they make 40lb. rubber hammers and this wouldn't have happened if I'd used one.
Without my mistake, things might have gone just fine, and much faster. I would have done the control arm and axle in a few weeks, after increasing my toolset properly, for the jobs.
I took her for a test drive just now, everything's fine.

Thanks for the wheel hub info. I will hold off until I hear the Whump,Whump, Whump.I need to fund my axle change first. I'll miss the 50-70 mph vibration when it's gone
. You get use to stuff being there and when you fix it.. it's like.. now what?

Then something else goes wrong. Such is your life owning a Volvo.I'll miss the 50-70 mph vibration when it's gone. You get use to stuff being there and when you fix it.. it's like.. now what?
After we changed the sway bar links on my car a few weekends ago, I think the right one's loose again. I tried futzing with it last night, and didn't touch the left wheel AT ALL, and now it's making some odd noise from that side. It did drive AWESOMELY for about 2 weeks though before I think the bolts loosened up again

Same thing happened to me. I put some mild thread locker on it the second time around.jblackburn wrote:

Off 36mm subject.. but did I read on here to tighten the strut nuts with an impact???
Maybe just to much reading during working hours
.
I would like to say that my Trax/ABS lite has been off after the third try at fixing it.. But then it will be back on today or soon..
This site has been great at teaching me a lot about my Volvo.
Thanks
Shane
