I'm having the same problem frequently..

''''The connecting rod (the black one with two ball joints) may need to be adjusted. It has a nplastic nut in its center, and by untightening it you can adjust its length''''.

how can I be sure that this is correctly adjusted? is there a mark on it? I dont want to mess the setting and make it worse..

I have a similar problem with a different car. I have a non turbo '99 V70 with 150k that is experiencing higher engine speeds through the whole operating range. Normal idle should be about 900, mine is 1400rpm. Driving down the freeway at 70mph I remember was about 2800 rpm and is now about 3300 rpm. My car has the ETM and not an adjustable throttle so I believe it may be a sensor. The ETM was replaced by Volvo only a year ago just before the warranty window closed so I don't think its an ETM issue yet. I think I will try the coolant sensor first to see if it is faulty and telling the engine that it is always too cool and is thus causing the engine to run higher all the time. The kicker to all this is that I still manage a decent 26 mpg. I also don't believe its a vacuum issue as the engine compartment sounds normal and I have no CEL lights on at all. Any thoughts?

Did anybody in this thread have any luck? I've got the same issue - high idle in park and neutral. My TB is clean, I cleaned my IAC, and my TPS clicks when it's just barely moved. Should I be pinching hoses on my IAC to see if it's working properly? Should I check my o2 sensors? Any advice?

i am too. after my car warms up, it has a high idle. it used to be really high (like 1500 rpm) but now its only 1300 or so. On a side note, my gas pedal would be extremely easy to depress for the first inch or so. then would get stiff again, then very very light. it tends to happen after i fully depress the pedal  . point is, could that be a symptom off a dirty throttle body? or one that needs to be adjusted?

thanks.

old thread, but what the hell. more info on one thread is better, rather then spread out across 2, right?

Definitely - mine was pretty nasty after all these years. Or you could need a new throttle cable - those bind or rust up after a while too. A new one is very easy to install, and feels GREAT under your foot.

Old thread I know, but did anyone get a resolution to this? I am seeing this on an engine I transplanted into my 98 V70.
