It is in gear and out the driveway in less then 45 seconds. I know ,not good.
(JBlackburn){Quote} Nothing wrong with that; that's how cars are meant to be driven. Just keep it under 3000 RPM for the first couple minutes. Letting it sit and warm up for a few minutes is actually bad for the car.
Well that is good to know. It's about three miles to the interstate, so it has time to warm.
(JBlackburn){Quote} VI is fully backwards compatible with III - choice is really up to you. I use the cheapest III fluid I can find as a cheap flusher since I run mine on the Mobil-1 stuff.
Please explain (fully backwards compatible).
So you flush with III and then add how many quarts of Mobil-I.
I need some warm weather to drain and flush three times every 100 miles. I drive exactly 100 miles back and forth to work every day.
Oil and trans washer the same. Thanks for that.
Oh, Just another project in between the axles and heater core (leaking).

It's like brake fluid basically. Dot-IV superseded Dot-III. It's better stuff, but backwards compatible to the old specifications, meaning it'll work exactly as the old fluid was intended to do in cars that specified that fluid.
The Mobil fluid is expensive, as is the JWS-3309 Volvo fluid. Like $100 for enough for a flush - at $8/bottle, I try to flush out as little as possible of that stuff.

As long as I know any of it will work, I'll find one of them and get it done soon.
Thanks

Here's a question regarding this stuff -
My indy - who is a lifelong friend since age three more than he is my mechanic - has 27 years experience with volvos, bmw's, and mercedes. He says that as far as trans flushes go, I should take it to the dealer. He says they have the knowledge and equipment
that will prevent any damage from occurring, and will make sure to get all of the fluid flushed out and replaced with totally clean stuff.
My car has 94k, it's a 99, shifts pretty fine - sometimes a tad jerky.
So - that's my plan. Thoughts?

jcmahoney: Sounds like from what you are saying, That the dealer changes it all at once. Contrary to all.
University Volvo said to only change if something was wrong.
I think I listen to all the ideas and then try and make a good selection.
My mileage and not knowing total history of the car, and the fact that it is showing a little slipping, is going to make me change mine sooner than later. ( Little history: It did kill a wild Boar in S.C. during it's lifetime)
Only 94K on a 99 is pretty good, but bad to be having any problems.

Whatever you do, don't let it near a flush machine. I don't think Volvo dealers do it, but those things are very bad news.
I would still advise against changing out all the fluid at that age - the drain and fill method is probably best for a car that's never had the fluid changed.
The 4-speeds all change gears a little bit rough at times - it shifts fine around 25% throttle, but can be harder when changing up gears with no throttle pressure at all, or above 3500 RPM. Just the way they were designed. Think of it this way: softer programmed shifts like in newer cars = more slippage = more wear & tear on the tranny. Harder shifts = immediate gear change = less wear & tear. Now if you're smashing into gears, that's a more serious issue.

bguzz: Glad to here it is going strong with so many miles. When you say change at every 30,000 miles. Is that a 100 mile two quart change till it's done or a empty and refill all in the same day?
