Question on 850 airpump and a weird a/c issue

In the section regarding the use of a VW airpump as a replacement for my 97 850 Turbo, was the VW pump correct for the Turbo motor? What model VW is it from?

Next horrible issue. I just bought this car and I found the a/c blows cold on the right side but horrificly hot on the left vents no matter where I've set the temp.. I have the auto control type system. If it is a stuck flap as several suggested elsewhere, how do I get to it and what is the repair consist of?

The air pump assembly is the same for NAs and turbos. I used a VW pump in my 98 S70. I paid $45 on ebay. It isn't so important what year VWs will fit as it is the physical configuration of the pump. If you look at the pump in your 850 you'll see what I mean, but the end of the pump where the wires plug in needs to be of the same type as the Volvo pump; meaning it needs to have the 3 prongs that snap on the end of the motor body and the small output end of the pump needs to be of the same size and orientation as the Volvo pump. You can look at the pictures of the pumps on ebay and you can see what the configuration is.

Thanks for the update..I've also been told that the airpump from a Volvo 960 will work doing the same alterations.

There's a lot of air pumps that are basicly the same configuration as the Volvo pumps. Most, if not all of them, are made by peirburg.

This might seem simple and stupid, but have you checked the air mix setting. Make sure it is set so that's it not bringing fresh air... aka the hot air from outside.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm well aware of the 850 airpump link here on this site. It just didn't give me enuf info other than a VW part number.

RE the a/c air mix issue..I've certainly eliminated that. My concern is..how do I access the heater control flaps as the issue has been traced to that problem.
