I have had to replace my rack and pinion twice now... I have a feeling that Sears is to blame... but that is neither here nor there. I had Volvo replace mine with a rebuilt one for $1100. (The first time) and $600 for the second time. (It was still within the year warranty.
) Anyway, I would take it to a Import only independent shop to get a second opinion. I did on my current issue and they are more honest and fair with their pricing, and they are willing to go the extra mile to tell you what is actually wrong with the car.
