Found a 2000 S70 with only 80,000 miles, priced below market value for a quick sale. I have owned a '98 S70 for the past 4 years, and have had few problems with thanks to this site. Or the problems were easily fixed!
I just don't know if I should purchase the 2000 S70 because I've heard they have more problems than the '98 model.
Anyone with good vs bad on the 2000 year model, please reply pros vs cons.
Thanks....

I have a 2000 V70 (now my wife's). It has a smoother engine than I recall 20 valve 850s (or 98 V70s/S70s which share the motor with the 850) With 160K miles the motor runs like new with no PCV pressure.
It has a built-in engine oil cooler, and afew extras which older models lack. I really like the mechanical tensioner on the timing belt system.
One thing to watch out for is the ETM. If it's been recently replaced that's fine though they have failed again with as low as 75K miles. Look for a yellow sticker on the underneath of the ETM body if it's NA. If turbo much harder to see.
Cruise control is an expensive option on 99+ and only dealer fitted as it requires a reflash of the ECM.
Also it should be fitted with the 5 speed AW55-50SN which had valve body issues with earlier builds.

If it's an NA S70, they have the problematic early 5-speed auto transmissions like precopster mentioned. Smoother, but they just don't have a very good track record. Any model with a turbo (GLT, AWD, or T5) still has the 4-speed.
The newer models are definitely smoother to drive though, even if the gas pedal is a bit touchy. Steering is weighted much better (it feels less like a tank) and the engine vibration is reduced a bit.

Decided to not pursue the 2000 S70. Found a '98 S70 that I will check out for purchase this weekend. I just seem more comfortable with a '98 since I've owned one the past 4 years, and have done just about all maintenance/upgrades.
