Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's stylish, distinctive P2 platform cars sold as model years 2001-2007 (North American market year designations).
The upper motor mount on my 2001 needs replacement. It has the older style round mount. IPD sells both the round and the square style for that car. (I don't want the poly one - I'm a very mellow driver. )
Any suggestions on which one I should get? Do I need to modify anything if I install the square style?
The square one was supposed to be an improvement over the round one. If you by the square one you will need the par that attaches to the engine (I think IPD includes this with the square bushing but make sure), the round one all you need is the bushing. I like my poly one, I do not remember feeling an increase in vibration due to it. Now let's see how long it lasts.
Which part that attaches to the engine? From what I could tell, the mount is one piece that bolts to the top of the engine. Is that correct? I was worried that the square one was wider and might need a different top bracket, but maybe I was worried about the wrong side...
Round or square, after 98 (99 and newer) you buy the entire piece, bushing and bracket, easy install.
Not that expensive
I really don't notice much difference in either one

The dealer replaced my wife's V70 ('04)'s with a square one at about 50K miles. I don't like it because there's a rubber "flap" that covers up seeing if it's gone bad or not. Just make sure if you go square, this is not the case. It's good to eye-ball that mount occasionally to see if it's still good- a known part that fails quite frequently on our cars.
