wheel bearing damage

My 2000 S80 was transported by car carrier trailer from New England to Florida. It left without problems. It arrived with grinding front wheel noise which turned out to require both front wheel bearings to be replaced. The carrier denied any responsibility. Recently I told the owner of a different carrier company of my experience. He said "they chained the car down to the carrier frame too tightly. That's why I always use wheel straps instead of frame chains". Be aware.

I think if the wheel bearing sounds louder as you drive fast, it really should be changed.
