Smoking during hard acceleration - what could be the cause?
During hard acceleration, I can see smoke in the rear view mirror. Our 1996 850 Turbo didn't do this before. What could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

Worn turbo, worn pistons, running rich, worn valve stems, leaking head gasket, etc. What color is the smoke?

I had the same issue with my 850T 1996 and at first thought it may be the piston rings. On hard acceleration it would smoke a lot and when I slowed down/stopped from the hard acceleration and then pulled off again the smoke would bellow out.
I then got my turbo redone but the same problem. Then decided that it was the rings. Saturday I read the forum and came across another 850 doing the same and the recommendation was to clean the PTC nipple situated near the turbo. Mine was completely blocked. I cleaned it out and since Sunday this car has not puffed out a single ounce of smoke. By no means am I saying that this is your problem but try it.
