5W-30 if you have cold winters (after the fall). 10W-30 for summer temperatures.

From said manual:

Really your choice. Just don't use a 15W or 20W, and don't use a -50. :)

You can stick with a good quality conventional oil (stick with the 30 weights for those) or a 40 weight synthetic oil if you choose. The bigger the difference in weights between the two on conventional oils (e.g. 5W-40) means they do not hold their advertised viscosities as well after a few thousand miles.

Been using Swepco 306 over a dozen years on various makes. Independent Volvo uses it.

Swepco 306 15-40W once a year for myself in CA (10~12K miles) but if you have freezing weather 5-30W winter 15-40W summer.

Try this one hundred miles after an oil change and feel, hear and drive the difference. This will give you an idea what the motor oil is like. It does not deteriorate like conventional nor synthetic so no clacking nor used motor feel.

EXCERPT - From First Time User Last Post on Page 2

"OK Folks...
Here are my first impressions/-seat of my pants-observations on the Swepco (mostly) 5W30. So far its been >500km and 10 days. The engine is running quieter at any cruising speed, all I hear is wind/road noise. (IT IS THAT QUIET - :D ) Start up is quick and the rough idle is gone. Fuel consumption seems to be a tad better (gas gauge), I will have hard numbers after a few fill-ups.
As for the piston slap.....
It has changed......
It is now clear, clean, crisp, somewhat like well tune castanets....I've never heard so well...

Stay tuned for more info.
Jean"

So the sweep Co 306 oil on the pelican site says not recommended for catalytic converters. Anyone know what happens to converters?

Probably has high amounts of zinc for classic cars with pushrod V8 engines with flat lifters to prevent camshaft wear. It clogs catalytic converters if the engine passes oil into the exhaust system for any reason. June

Alright, here is another question. Does anyone know if API service SN-RC ILSAC GF-5 is suitable for the 1998 2.4L turbo? It does not match specs in the owners manual, but I suspect it’s changed in the last 20+ years.
