Hoses to heater core 1994 940

Post by jaashua »

My mechanic bypassed the heater core while I was determining if I wanted to junk or keep and repair my Volvo after the heater core cracked. I decided to keep it and replaced the heater core myself. The heater core is replaced but now I'm not sure which hoses run to which of the heater core nipples. Can anybody give me some direction? I'm very new to car repair, so I have no idea what is what, so I'll need more than the technical name for the location. Thanks. Here are two pictures of the area where I believe the bypass is.

If there is no control outside to restrict flow then it is continuous so hose placement should be matter? Temperature of Heat use is via Blend Door(s).

I already replaced the heater core. I'm just trying to hook it back up to the hoses inside the engine, but I'm not sure which hoses because I didn't disconnect them.

Sorry, there was a typo! I should have wrote hose placement should NOT matter if the coolant is continuously flowing through it whereas other Manufacturers there is a Valve that controls hot coolant from entering the Heater Core unless it is called for. In that case which hose goes where makes a difference.

Ah. Cool. Thank you very much. Only remaining question is which hoses do I connect? In the first picture I captured what I think is the bypass, but I'd like to be sure. Is there a way I can identify the two hoses I'm supposed to connect? Thanks again.
