Re: Timing belt, exhaust cam jumped
Pauloil: you are about exactly correct on the right axle. Except for the part about "remove the entire intermediate bearing support to gain enough clearance to yank the axle." This car is a flaming bundle of challenges every corner I turn. Thank God for MVS! Peered at a few posts specific to dismantling the cv joints, and found the valuable info that I needed. Tomorrow. New boots. New grease. New tires. New ride! BTW, are those inboard rollers (3) staked to keep them from coming out of the housing uninvited? I managed to "slip" them out, and will have to touch the lips of the housing with a Dremel tool to remove the raised metal. I figure I'll give it a couple whacks with a punch after the inboard joint is reassembled with new grease, before I seal the new boot in place. Has anybody seen the video of the guy yanking the boot over a greased transmission fluid funnel, to install it on an axle? I'd like to see him do that with the outboard boot.

Major update! All the parts are replaced, all the timing marks lined up and the car was driven 1000 mi. over the weekend to Infineon raceway to watch the NASCAR guys turn in both directions. The car ran like a top and got 24+ mpg and ran @ 80+ all day long. had a few bursts to 100+ for a quick pass. Valentine1 radar detector never let me down. Thanks to all for every bit of advice.
Now we have a little flat spot just off idle when it's cold. Maybe clean the ETM when I do the PCV service?
