Debating S70's...

Post by LRVolvo »

Alright guys-- need some help. I tossed out the possibility of buying a 2002 S60. Looked great but too many potentials.

Now, I'm debating between two 1999 S70's; one is a GLT with $135K and need for struts and brakes and fading paint--and that's it.

Or, a 1999 5-speed manual that looks great, is cleaner but would be bought sight unseen. Have dealt with the people with the manual car in the past and has been smooth sailing.

Any gremlins in the manual tranny?

Drive both, and see which you like more. The NA 5-speed is a lot of fun to drive, but, kinda like a small-engined Honda, a bit lacking in power unless you rev it a bit. The GLT engine is a ton of fun around town.

A manual trans is about as simple as you can get - not much to go wrong, and these are built about as well as they could really be.

Honestly, though, I'd never buy a car without looking at it :!:

i have a 99 s70 glt and i love it. as others have described it, death by 1000 paper cuts. everything major seems solid so if you can do minor repairs they seem to be great cars!
