Speedo going dead fish on me

This thing is driving me crazy. I'll be driving along speedo showing 55mph all is good. Then, Boom it goes dead fish on me.

It wakes back up when I restart the car and sometimes intermittently comes back on its own. I've been tempted to get a boneyard cluster and swap it in but I think may be due to the ubiquitous abs problem. (the abs light is not on though so i don't think its broken)

What say you MVS: get new cluster or look into getting abs unit repaired?

Is the ABS light there when you start the car? It is supposed to come on for a couple of seconds to let you know that it works.

With a dead speedo, there's more than enough going on for the unit to trigger the light.
