S70 intermitent miss cel

Post by chefbob »

I have a 98 S70 GLT with a CEL reading intermitent miss in cylinders 2 and 4. It was tuned up about 15000 miles ago cap rotor wires and spark plugs a friend has suggested possible coil problems. Any Ideas here ,I work for meals on wheels and really need my car.
Thanks Chef Bob

Hi Bob, sorry to see you live in Pittsburgh. LOL Oh, excuse me. (I use to live in Pittsburgh, that's where I grew up).

If you have plugs are wires, you do NOT have coils. You should check the plugs to see if they are still gapped properly, check compression to see if you have any burnt valves, check to make sure you have good fuel pressure, then check to make sure you have clean injectors.

What codes so you have?
'95 855 T-5R M, Panther - 22/28 mpg, 546,000 miles
'95 955 T-5R Yellow Wagon, Lemonade, 180,000 miles

Replace your plugs.

IPDUSA.com sells bosch coppers for like 1-2$ each.

at 15k miles you will be needing new ones soon anyways if this isnt your problem.
At the very least go down to an auto store and buy a spark plug gapper and make sure they are all .028.

The coppers while they work amazing on the turbo models, will also work fine for your n/a (GLT can swing both ways after 97)
He is right to say you do not have coil packs, they didnt start until 99.

98 s70 GLT is indeed a turbo I know because we replaced it last summer. Spark plugs ehh I can check that and is 15000 really the replacement point? That would be great if that was the problem. Also the CEL has gone out and come on twice any significance? Thanks fo thr input I will check the codes tues on the way home and post any.

Could be misfires.

Mine started acting up around 20k, I pulled and regapped them and haven't had a problem since.
Replaced them last weekend just because at nearly 30k miles, and the fact we had the engine apart, it made sense to go ahead and put new plugs in.
