Head gasket kit quiz...

Post by rspi »

Ok, I have a quiz...

In the pic below, there is a seal in the top left piston slot. What does it go to?

Image

I asked several people and no one knew, even the folks at iPd. It just hit me what it goes to.

I'm guessing, but maybe the o-ring on the coolant pipe that goes into the water pump housing on the block, hard to tell.

I thought a roll-on sealant is used in place of a conventional head gasket. Does the gasket seal better than the roll-on sealant? Thanks.

@ J_CD: No, the coolant pipe has the paper type gasket just to the top of the orange front cam shaft seals.

@ JordanW: Same thing.

@ Loub: The head cam cover is sealed by the anaerobic roll on sealant. This gasket kit in the pic is for the head to block seal.

If noone guesses it correctly, I will post my thoughts tomorrow afternoon. A 24 hour quiz.

Is it the seal for the flash shield behind the rotor? Thank you for the gasket info.

Its the O Ring that goes around the dust shield cone that fits under the distributor cap, and over the rotor...???

Yes, that paper gasket does go on that pipe, but that piple also is removable from the block. There is an o-ring that sits inside the back of the water pump housing.

I scrapped the block in the picture a while ago, but I know there is infact a o-ring in there. There is no picture of it, but here is thePN

It could also fit the spark shield under the dizzy cap. But just so you know, there is a rubber o-ring that seals that water pipe in the water pump housing.

EDIT... Check out this thread on vs the linky for EEuropean shows a picture.

Well, I believe Loub and ByeBoy are the winners. Took me 4 weeks to figure it out. My guess is that it was lurking in the back of my mind and popped in yesterday. LOL, Great job guys.
