Automatic Transmission Problems

Hey guys, My wifes 96 850 na wagon recently started having issues with the transmission. It will work for a while, then make a noise that sounds like plastic pieces clicking, then acts like it's in neutral. I did the drain and fill 3 times, and added lucas tran non slip. So far no improvements. Is the tranny gone?

Are you saying after the Drain and Fill it still runs till it gets hot and goes to or act like it is in Neutral? If so get a Gallon of this and if it improves then do a flush with it. I've done flushes with Various ATF including High Mileage stuff and it does not work and this stuff has saved it.

It, will sometimes engage and shift like it's supposed to, then it acts like it's slipping and won't engage. It makes a weird clicking grinding noise when it wants to engage.

Since it is still working do a Drain and Fill with the Swepco. I believe it should get it going and if so do a Flush with Swepco right away.

Yeah, it sounds dead to me.

If you've changed the fluid 3 times and still no luck, something's bad internally.

Changed out all of the fluid, it worked great for a week or so, now same symptoms, works for a while then starts to make weird noise, then won't engage. It was working fine for a 300 miles or so, shifted perfectly. lots of torque. Any ideas?

Aside from perhaps it not being at the correct level when hot, idling, in Park, I don't know. I think there's something wrong internally that isn't allowing proper pressures once warmed up. Perhaps a plugged filter screen.

That was my thought also, but as far as I know the only way to change the filter is to pull the tranny correct?
