wont start after motor gets hot

Hi I have a 1992 740 wagon,non turbo,regina emissions.Lately in the summer I drive back from work it usualy takes me 30 minutes in new york traffic .The temperature gauge reads perfect,but if I turn the car off ,it wont start again until it cools down.any ideas what it could be.thanks in advance
