Hello, I am new to this site, so please forgive any posting boo boos.
I have a 2002 S60 2.4L Not a turbo. While driving a few days ago,
suddenly went into "limp mode". Barely made it through busy intersection.
Replaced fuel and air filter, but didn't help. Had it towed to mechanic (not Volvo dealership)
Informed me that ETM was bad. He called Volvo for part and charging $900 for part.
Someone told me there had been a recall so after I researched it, I called Volvo
dealership and they told me I did have an "open recall" on my vehicle, but since the
car was originally registered in Dec 2001, it was out of warranty by 8 months and I
would have to pay for it.
I purchased it 6/2005 but never received a notification of extended warranty for ETM.
Maybe it was sent to first owner?? Yesterday was the first time I heard anything about
this issue. My question is, since Volvo never sent me the letter, shouldn't Volvo
help me out, even a price reduction, or something? I expected more from Volvo/
I do not have the money to pay a $1,000, and am so upset about this, I don't know
where to turn.
Thanks for your site, don't really expect theres anything I can do about it, but
thanks for listening anyway.

Send it to XeModex in Canada, costs around $600 inc freight. Call them on 1888 712 2525
It's almost easy to remove the ETM on non turbos except the left hand starter bracket needs to be removed to release the loom
See this seasoned pro do it....well not exactly but she managed it anyway
Good luck and stay in touch if you need assistance
I've attached a pic of an entire ETM with loom so you'll recognise the connector when you see it just beneath the radiator close to the front engine mount
