Hi - I do appologise if this has been covered previously, but I did search and found nothing similar.
I have just purchased a Volvo 740 GL (1986) model, running on a Carb, and I am having trouble with the dashboard lights. On the instruments I have no illumination (although elsewhere things are lit up), and the rev counter, temp gauge, and fuel guage all refuse to work .. at all ...
In addition to this I also have the battery light on all the time, but upon inspection of the battery, and the charging system, everything is okay, and charging fine.
i have heard that this may be some sort of regulator on the back of the instruments, but i have no idea if this can be mended, or if this is the problem at all. I must add that unlike true volvo fashion, all other electrics seem to be working very well.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

Instrument Cluster
I hade something similar some years ago. I dropped the ground for the instrument cluster at the grounding bar. You will find the grounding bar in left foot dwell behind the vertical panel just in front of the door.

volvo wiring diagrams show what voltage you should have where. they are kinda pricey at $27 but worth it.

Thats what i thought, best to check though.LaRy wrote:I mean that the ground wire from the cluster has lost it's connection to the ground bar, in my case it was very loose.
