2000/2001 parts interchange

I have a daily driver 2000 model V40 and a 2001 S40 parts car. I'm wondering if I can swap the 2001 transmission into the 2000 car? Same question for the shifter setup if the tranny's won't interchange, will the 01 shifter setup work in the 2000 car? Currently the 2000 is behaving nicely, but it goes into that wierd limp mode and won't upshift on occasion. I though having the spare tranny might be a good idea since the S40 is headed to the scrapper soon.
